Annie GOLSON

Annie Marie Golson was born on April 10, 1927 in Lynchburg, Tennessee to Lucille Phelps and Jared Whitaker. She was one of four children. She lived in Tennessee most of her childhood and early adult life, until moving to Dayton, Ohio in the 1950's.

Marie was blessed to be joined in union to Tommy Trigg and later to Henry Golson. The fruition of those unions produced seven beautiful children: Nancy, Louise, Evelyn, Hazel, Delores, Tommy, Patricia, and a stepson Henry Lewis Golson. She was a homemaker, whose children benefited from her being there to meet their needs.

"Mama" and "Grandma" as she was affectionately known to her children and grandchildren, was a kind-hearted woman whose home was always open to everyone. Her giving heart was noticeable in how she would "give you the clothes off her back". She loved to drive and made many trips well into her senior years to visit friends and family. She loved fashion and was always "decked out" with her collection of hats.

Marie was a God fearing woman, who knew the Lord Jesus as her personal Savior. Her love for the Lord was evident in how she lived her life. She was a member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, and sang in the church's Number Two Choir. She also served in other ministries by sending out cards/flowers and helping in the church kitchen. One of her favorite sayings was "When you're walking with GOD you don't have a worry in the world". She was also a member of Order of The Eastern Star.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents Lucille Phelps and Jared Whitaker, and all three of her siblings: Mildred Lewis, Lenard Porter and Billy Porter. She was also preceded by husbands Tommy Trigg and Henry Golson, and daughter Delores Trigg.

She is survived by her children: Nancy (Lloyd) Cox, Louise (Willie) Billingsley, Evelyn Trigg, Hazel (Amos) Powell, Tommy Trigg, Patricia Logan, Henry Lewis Golson and 172 plus grand, great grand and great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her Aunt Martha Mattison and Brother-in-law Lenell Golson.

Rest in peace "mama", you will forever be in our hearts.
