Ernest HINES, JR

Ernest Leroy Hines, Jr., was born August 14, 1948 to Helen M. (Wilson) Mitchell and Ernest Leroy Hines, Sr., at Cincinnati General Hospital. He departed this life on Friday, August 14, 2015, on his 67th birthday, on his favorite spot "the couch", in front of the T.V., with the sky, trees and birds in view from the windows.

Ernest moved to Madisonville in 1958, when his mother, Helen, married Sandy L. Mitchell, Sr. (Sweet Roll). Ernest lived in Madisonville and became well known.

Ernest loved music. He played bass, lead guitar, drums and sang. He attended Madisonville Elementary, Lyon Junior High and Withrow High School. At age 17, his desire was to join the United States Marine Corp. Ernest enlisted and was ranked on August 8, 1969. Ernest did two tours in Vietnam; signing up for his second tour after his uncle, Clarence Mitchell, Jr., was killed. Ernest's duty was to drive what he called "the meat truck", picking up deceased soldiers; some of which were his friends! What a trying task for a young man! Ernest was discharged October 3, 1971.

Upon returning home to the States, Ernest resumed some of his passions. He would drive and fix anything on wheels. He landed a job at Ford, until injuring his back. Then he began over the road truck driving. On long family trips, he would drive the big mobile home (RV). The stories we can tell about that. He always made sure his family had a safe trip.

In his "seasoned" years, Ernest caught the eye of Wanda Locklayer, due to his white handkerchief, which he always carried. On November 12, 2013 at 9:10 p.m., Ernest and Wanda were wed. He shared the love of the children and created a special bond with the grandchildren.

Ernest was preceded in death by Ernest Hines, Sr. (father), Sandy L. Mitchell, Sr. (stepfather), Emmett L. Hines (brother), Ida Wilson, Elsie Mitchell & Ruth Cantrell (grandmothers), and Clarence Mitchell (grandfather).

Ernest leaves to cherish his memory: loving wife, Wanda (Locklayer) Hines; children, Tonya, Yolanda, Bridgette, Shannon, Maria, Michelle, Chaysto, Richard, Robert, Rufus and Chris; mother, Helen M. Mitchell; sister, Donna M. Riley of Cincinnati, OH;; brothers, Sandy L, Mitchell, Jr. (Simone) of Jackson, TN and Kelvin T. Mitchell, Sr. (Lisa) of Cincinnati, OH; aunts, Betty Underwood and Christine Townsend; along with a host of grand and great-grandchildren, great nephews and nieces, cousins and friends.
