Ethelyn Lindsay MIMMS

Martha Ethelyn Lindsay was born March 6, 1921 to the union of William Lloyd Lindsay, Sr. and Ethel Estelle McWilliams. She took her last breath very peacefully at the age of 94 on July 29, 2015. Ethelyn was the oldest and only girl of five children. Her favorite saying was "one girl and four boys". She loved her brothers immensely and they loved her.

In 1938, the Lindsay Family attended a Tent Revival held by Pastor J. L. Greene. Ethel Lindsay (mother), Von Goethe Lindsay (uncle), Ethelyn Lindsay, and Ned Allen Lindsay (brother) were baptized and became members of the Ephesus SDA Church. Mother Lindsay worked as a nurse's aide at Riverside Hospital, Uncle Von Goethe Lindsay became Pastor and also served as treasurer of the South Central Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, and Brother Ned Allen Lindsay was Pastor of the Oakwood SDA Church and many others.

Ethelyn graduated from Patterson Elementary and Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama. Ethelyn received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Math from Knoxville College in 1941. She then began her career as a Math Teacher in Atmoor, Alabama. Ethelyn also taught math at Ullman High School and Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama, as well as high schools in Louisville, Kentucky; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Cleveland, Ohio.

In February 1944, Intern Pastor Edgar T. Mimms saw Ethelyn playing the piano at Ephesus SDA Church and proclaimed that she would be his wife. They were married in June of 1945 and began their 50 year Adventist ministry serving as Pastor in Mobile and Birmingham, Alabama; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Cleveland, Ohio; and New York City. Ethelyn Mimms was an exceptional wife for over 62 years having her mother-in-law live with her for 60 of those years.

Ethelyn Mimms followed God's lead. She was pianist for many choirs and very effective as a Bible Worker. She partnered with Mrs. Lillian Hardin at Ephesus Church and led many to Jesus Christ as their Savior, including Mrs. Ruby Stewart. She was also a very accomplished seamstress being trained by her Father, a graduate of Tuskegee Institute, who opened 'The Lindsay Tailoring Shop' in 1919 on 4th Avenue in Birmingham, Alabama. She made most of the clothes she wore through 2015.

Ethelyn Mimms was preceded in death by her husband Pastor Edgar T. Mimms; parents William Lloyd and Ethel Lindsay; brothers William Lloyd Lindsay, Jr., George Edward Lindsay, Sr., and Ned Allen Lindsay, Sr.

Mourning the loss of Ethelyn Mimms are one daughter Carol Edlyn (Don) Milligan; four grandchildren Vanessa Talbott Quinones, Jessica Talbott, Derek (Makenzie) Talbott and Kayleigh Milligan; six great grandchildren Lexi Talbott, Kirra Talbott, Braden Talbott, Noah Quinones, Rylee Talbott, and Elliana Quinoes; one brother Raymond Leo (Bertha) Lindsay; sister-in-law Annie H.
