Harold ARMSTRONG

Harold Thomas (Tom) Armstrong of Burlington, Kentucky, was welcomed into this world on Tuesday, July 24, 1945, into the loving arms of his parents, Clyde and Laura Armstrong. On Saturday, February 13, 2016, Tom peacefully opened his eyes to meet his Savior and entered into his heavenly rest. He was greeted by his parents, many family members, and dear friends. Tom will be waiting for Birdella (Gabbard), his beloved wife of 51 years, his daughters Shonda Taylor and Julia Goodman, son in law, Tim Goodman, and his grandchildren; Carlee, Molly, Timmy, Ella and Julianna, his sister Wilma (Midge) Elmore, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many precious friends.
Tom owned and operated his janitorial business for 30 years. Prior to that, he worked in the construction industry as well. Most recently, he was a property manager for the Boone County Public Library. Tom loved to work and was truly a jack of all trades. He took his knowledge and used it numerous times at Florence Baptist Temple during building projects. In addition to that, he always found time to help family and friends with many projects. People often times came to him for advice and he gladly shared his knowledge.

An avid outdoorsman, Tom loved simple pleasures. You could find him on the golf course, or hunting deer, rabbits, or squirrels. You could even find him on the river bank gigging frogs. His favorite activity, no doubt was fishing. After a big day at the lake, he would bring home his catch, have Birdella fry them and have company over to eat. Tom and Birdella were very hospitable and he would share anything he had with others. He would often go to bluegrass festivals to listen to his favorite music, gospel bluegrass. Last but not least, he devoted countless hours in various ministries at Florence Baptist Temple. These included driving a church bus, singing in the choir, playing softball, driving the van for senior citizens, leading the junior church ministry for children, as well as serving as a deacon.

Tom accepted his Lord Jesus as his personal Savior when he was thirteen years old at Calvary Baptist Church. In the spirit of full disclosure, the only reason why Tom first went to church was to play basketball. Even though they required attendance, this ministry provided the blessed assurance that we have knowing that Jesus, Himself, has prepared a place for him.

A visitation will be held at Florence Baptist Temple 1898 Florence Pike, Burlington, Kentucky on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. His funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm. Tom will be laid to rest at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Erlanger, Kentucky. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a wonderful dad, a sweet loving papa, and a beloved friend to many. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in his memory at Fifth Third Bank at any location.
