Jessie PITTS

The greatly loved, Jessie Mae Pitts was born on May 16, 1929 to Jim and Alberta Smith in LaFayette Alabama. As a young mother she moved to and was a resident of Dayton, OH for the last 62 years.

Jessie Mae was a homemaker and was devoted to and greatly loved her children. She also enjoyed soul food, shopping and the company of close friends.

Jessie Mae made her calling and election sure under the tutelage and pastoral care of the late Elder Robert L. King, Sr. at the Praying Church of God in Christ. She served there as the church mother until declining health prevented her from attending services. Jessie Mae had a great love of singing and was often known to make up her own songs on the spot and sing them during service. One of her favorites was Jesus, My Longtime Friend. In her testimony, Jessie Mae would always conclude with asking for prayer that not only her children would be saved but all the children of the world.

Jessie Mae was preceded in death by her three sons, Robert, Cecil, and Richard Pitts, seven siblings, former husband Robert Pitts and special cousin Alma Finley. She leaves to cherish her memories: one son Tommy Pitts (Glenda), three daughters Ellarie Wilson (Charles), Mary Wilson and Priscilla Wilson, a devoted granddaughter Cassaundra Lewis, 3 sisters, Lavata Meadows of Pontiac MI, Helen Lockhart of Alexander City, AL Mildred Howard of Syracuse NY, 3 sisters-in-law, Thelma Devoise, Annie Pearl Smith and Ruth King all of Auburn, AL, a host of grandchildren, great grands and great-great grands, nieces, nephews and many other friends and loved ones.
