John ROGERS, SR

John Floyd Rogers Sr., was born on February 18, 1927. Early Saturday morning, January 16, 2016 he departed this life to return home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was the son of the late John Henry and Ocie Mae Rogers.

John was preceded in death by his wife Cleopatra Rogers, older brother Clarence Rogers, younger brother Clarence-Temo Rogers and daughter Jacqueline Wright.

He leaves to cherish his memory two sons John F. Rogers, Jr., (Diane), and James D. Rogers; four daughters Ocie M. Goodloe (James), Dionne L. Rogers, Constance L. McKinley (Brian), and Denise M. Rogers (Lucious) and dear friend Catherine Boyd, mother of these children from their previous marriage. One brother, Vertis Rogers (Erenstine) and his step children, Hobert Bishop Jr., James Bishop (Gilda), Ayishah Munir, Carolyn Hummons (Dwight), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren.

John was a long time member of Corinthian Baptist Church for over 50 years. He served in the US Army from February 20, 1946 to February 21, 1949 and received an honorable discharge and Victory Metal. He attended the University of Cincinnati for two years pursuing to become a doctor but decided to end this pursuit to support his children. He retired from Princeton High School as maintenance engineer. He was also a member of St. John's Lodge #3, Free and Accepted Masons, Prince Hall. He loved speaking and encouraging himself with God's Word. He loved bowling (very competitive!), served on various bowling committees, bingo, music, watching old TV programs, reading the newspaper, working crossword puzzles, outdoor activities and volunteering at the board of elections. He also loved spending time with family and friends. He loved people and never complained.

Sleep on Daddy. We will see you again and your memories will forever be in our hearts. We love you!
