Joseph VOSS

Joseph "Joe" Voss, had his last heartbeat after 97 years on Wednesday April 1, 2015, leaving life as he lived it, not complaining and not wanting to be a bother to anyone. He had a great heart that judged no one and respected all, and he was the most caring husband, dad, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He served in the Ohio National Guard in the cavalry, and was an outstanding Cincinnati firefighter for 32 years, retiring as a Lieutenant at Company 35 in Westwood.  He had his own electrical business most of his life and was the remodeler of choice for the whole family and for friends.  He served the Police and Fire Retirees of Ohio as both Treasurer and President and served the Fire Retirees of Greater Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Firefighters Holy Name Society as President. He was a Trustee of the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund.  A founder of the corps of Catholic firefighters who assisted the chaplain at The Christ Hospital, he served with them for 30 years. He volunteered at St. Martin Church and School and as a tax preparer for the elderly through AARP for many years.  He was a Goldenaire of the Cheviot Firemen's Association. Joe was an excellent golfer and card player who loved his beer and a good laugh. He was eating his favorites, chocolate sundaes and Skyline, to the end.

Surrounded throughout life by strong women who loved him: his beloved wife Rosaleen D'Arcy Voss who died in 1997, his daughters Kathleen (Kathy) Brinkman, Margaret (Peggy) Johnson, and Patricia (Patty) Voss, his granddaughter Jennifer Brinkman Thomas, the watchdog of his care Sister Kristel, S.N.D. (Terry Noehring), and his late dear friend Pearl David.  He loved his sons-in-law George Brinkman and the late Bob Johnson and his great-grandsons Mitchell and Elliott Thomas. His sister Virginia (Ginny) Voss Deden survives him.
