Lawrence MCKINNEY

Lawrence Richard McKinney was born to William and Alice McKinney on January 16, 1945, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He departed this life on September 4, 2015, at the Mercy Fairfield Hospital.

Lawrence accepted Christ at an early age at the Jerriel Baptist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, later joining Israel Missionary Baptist Church as an adult. Lawrence graduated from Robert A. Taft High School in 1963. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy for 4 ½ years receiving an honorable discharge and many awards.

In 1966, Lawrence married his high school sweetheart Anna Holley. To this union two biological children were born, Kevin Richard McKinney (Shanda) of Dayton, Ohio, and Rhonda Lynn Royles (Rosezell) of Forest Park, Ohio. Lawrence's love for family was forever strong and faithful and when the need arose he adopted two other children Angela Elizabeth McKinney, and Tyrell Marquis McKinney.

Lawrence was an electrical wireman, having served a 4 year apprenticeship and working 25 years with Local Union 212 before retiring in June 2002. Lawrence enjoyed all aspects of working with his hands and was Anna's personal handyman. Lawrence enjoyed family, friends, sports, traveling, and working around the house.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, one brother William McKinney, and two sisters, Shirley Harris and Mary Ann McKinney-Singleton.

Lawrence leaves to mourn his passing, a loving wife Anna; two sons, Kevin and Tyrell; two daughters, Rhonda and Angela; six grandchildren, Devin, Jeff, Kevin, Aniyah, Maiya, and Anthony; two brothers, Frederick McKinney of Hephzibah, Ga., Leroy McKinney of Denver, Colorado; one sister Catherine Chiles of Cincinnati, Ohio; a very special friend Dennis Whitehead, who helped him through his whole illness and helped him to medical appointments, in and out of bed, sometimes just sitting with him; brother-in-law Tweese, who was a God send to Anna and Lawrence; and a host of family and friends.
