Margaret NICKERSON

Margaret Nickerson is preceded in death by her husband Edgar Nickerson, mother Elizabeth Fleming, father Corzie Fleming, brother Ullysses Trent.

She leaves behind to celebrate her life …(sister) Evelyn Ward, brother in law, Anthony Ward, her (two sons) Edward Dunlap (Barbara) Linear Dunlap, (fiancé Veronica Bishop), step-children, Barbara Nickerson, Brian Nickerson, Michael Nickerson, grandchildren, Andreta Hardison, Casey Turner, Sidney Turner, Sefu Rashid, and Felicia Watts , Nicholas Gilyot, and a host great-grand children. Three nephews, Stephen Ward (Patricia), David Ward, Donald Ward (Cassandra), As well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was born in 1927 in Philadelphia, PA. The family moved to Sparrows Point Maryland where she attended Sollars Point elementary and high school until she had to leave to help her family. She began working at Sparrows Point Laundry and in the late fifties she continued to gain her high school diploma from Dunbar night school where she worked as a seamstress at Robin-Dale uniform company. She also worked as a crossing guard in Baltimore, MD. In 1961, Margaret entered Coppin State Teacher's College, where she graduated with honors with a degree in Elementary Education in 1965. She then began her teaching career and taught 4th grade at Harlem Park Elementary in Baltimore, Maryland. In the early seventies she met and married Major Edgar Nickerson (United States Air Force). At that time Margaret moved to Dayton, Ohio, which time she continued her teaching career at Dayton Public Schools. She later received a Master degree from University of Dayton in Education. Her tenure lasted 42 years when she retired from Dayton Public Schools in 2007. Margaret was a faithful member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority.
