Tommie MOORE

The earth lost a light on December 5, 2015. A beacon of wisdom and fortitude, Tommie Mae Toliver Moore transitioned from this life to dwell in the land of eternal peace and tranquility. Her unforgettable presence is missed by those who loved and learned from her. When Tommie made her first cameo into the world, ninety-six years ago, life for Cleo and Berry Tolliver would never be the same. Although they bore four children prior to Tommie [Ruth, Daisy, Geneva, James], her entry begged the cliché, "last, but certainly not least". Tommie's life was marked by success. Among many other things, she successfully raised two daughters, Monty Reece and Melanie Moore Seals, with her husband of fifty-two years, James Richard Moore, who precedes her in death. And she successfully managed careers at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and Dayton Metropolitan Housing Authority, respectively. Tommie's tenacity and wit carried her through societal shortcomings ranging from the Great Depression to the Civil Rights Movement and as a result, she taught her children and grandchildren the value of perseverance and faith. Her faith in God strengthened her and enabled her to be a pillar in her family and in her community. She is loved deeply and will be greatly missed.

As a 60+ year member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, Tommie was an active Greeter and a member of the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) where she chaired several fund-raising projects. She was also a member of the 399 Social Club.

Tommie is survived by her daughters, her granddaughters, Erin Reece and Whitney McGuire, her sons-in-law, William Reece and Elgin Seals, her niece, Juanita Grubbs, her beloved nieces, nephews, and distant siblings.
